Reflection
After working on this project, I can say that I did great work and was able to get results suitable for what I did. The comic book I drew carefully portrays people, buildings, and the emotions of people, and I think it looks very easy to understand what they represent. Also, I had been working on this project with the theme of drawing unique pictures, not just drawing them carefully. I think we have achieved that task sufficiently. This project taught me not only to draw things carefully, but also to draw a picture that shows the individuality of the person who drew it. And I learned that these are the factors that attract readers.
However, in order to successful my project and make next work better, I should carefully grade against the criteria. In general, the picture of my comic book is drawn in an easy-to-understand manner, and the composition of the story is properly considered. I think the key to creating an interesting manga work is not only the goodness of the picture, but also the composition of the story and I achieved its criteria. I prefer to give me 5 to 6 mark.
After evaluating my product, I found out its weakness is the lack of movement which people in comic book do and facial expression. I was able to portray it politely, but I noticed that people weren't moving much. The movements depicted in this comic book are like photographs and drawn stopped posture. My next goal is to improve my painting technique and write a manga whose movement looks like a movie. I also think that people's facial expressions lacked diversity. Facial expressions can make the viewer feel that feeling. In other words, emotions are transferred to the manga work. I realized that the variety of facial expressions is also an important factor in giving readers a sense of familiarity with the comic book.
Reflecting Based on Topic and Global Context
The personal project not only encouraged me to better understand the topic, but also helped me to reaffirm my love for comics. I've read a thousand comic books so far, and everything has enriched my lives. One of the reasons is that comic books are interesting, but at the same time they give us knowledge. This time I drew a manga with the theme of a Japanese board game called shogi, and through this project I was able to deepen my understanding of shogi. In Japan, shogi players are a professional profession, and the games are distributed on the Internet. In order to know more about shogi, I was able to deepen my understanding by watching the matches which gives me knowledge of shogi, and outputting it through the action of drawing a manga. However, the purpose of this project is not just to acquire knowledge, but to convey it to the audience. I was able to pass on the knowledge I gained through this project to the readers of the manga in the manga. The objective evaluation by my older sisters and parents was to compliment the comic book. I think I was able to achieve that goal myself.
Reflection as an IB learner
The personal project has developed my knowledge on global context of personal and cultural expression which I considered suits the best my project, also got understanding against it. By focusing on this topic, I was able to look at and better understand the different cultures of the world. My comic book as a product of Japanese tradition, which focuses on Japanese board games, is an active intercultural communication.
